Alright today's topic: The United States giving aid to the less fortunate. What are you thoughts? The way I see it there are two sides.
Side A: We are a blessed country that has the ability to do something about the poverty/disease/natural disasters/genocide etc in other countries and it would be wrong to not use what we've been blessed with to help others.
Side B: We are currently in significant debt ourselves yet we continue to give aid to other nations when they are faced with poverty/disease/natural disasters/genocide etc. who provide our country with nothing in return. While we should care and pray for those individuals it is not the job of the United States to fiscally provide with the result being the US going into even more debt.
Thoughts?
This is hard for me. We shouldn't live isolated from the rest of the world and the struggles and problems they are dealing with on a daily basis. However, it's frustrating at times to hear about $1 billion of aid going to country X when poverty and homelessness is an on going problem here. This leads me to the thought of the church and it's responsibility for taking care of the poor, etc. That's probably another topic for another day.
ReplyDeleteI agree Amy. There is certainly a difference between government aid and individual aid. Individuals who are so blessed should definitely give to others.
ReplyDeleteHelping is the best thing I would say to do. That is what has been taught to us by The Lord.
