The Best Baby Shower Gift Combo

I purchased the following fabric from Fabricworm. It is Jay-Cyn designs for birch fabrics. It's organic cotton so it's super soft.

I purchased a half yard of each fabric. This gave me enough fabric to make a blanket and three burp cloths (see the burp cloth tutorial here)

There are a number of tutorials for minky blankets on pinterest, here is a good one to use.  I decided to make it a patchwork blanket on the one side, and I used white minky material on the other.

I also added some batting in the middle to make it thicker and warmer. It's a great blanket for the crib, or the car seat, or just about anything. If you'd like a set of your own, let me know, the cost for the set is $65.00, if there's other fabric you'd like to use, I can do that as well :)

Baby Shower Gift Ideas

I don't know about you but I've got a lot of baby shower's in the future and it's always more fun to make something for a shower than buy something right? Below are some great baby shower gift ideas that I love!

1. Receiving Blankets: I love flannel receiving blankets and have been using them a ton with Miss Charlotte. I really like the ones in this tutorial because they are reversible. Each blanket requires two yards of fabric, you could make a cute set of four for relatively cheap. So adorable!

2. Baby Leg Warmers: These leg warmers were made from knee socks! Such a cute idea!!!

3. DIY Gift wrapping: This is an adorable way to wrap that DIY gift you've done.

4. Month by Month Onesies: I love this idea! A onesie for each month, these are great for the mom who wants to take a picture every month during that first year.

5. Knit Hats:  This one requires a bit of sewing but so very cute.

Hopefully this gives you some ideas for upcoming baby shower gifts. Everyone appreciates the time it takes to create a homemade gift and you certainly can't go wrong with any of the lovely ones mentioned in this post.

Coral and Gray Nursery

It's done! I love coral and gray together and wanted to do it for the nursery. It's also not super girly which I like, and can actually probably be used for either a boy or girl.

The main problem I had was there are a TON of shades of coral. I purchased the two coral fabrics in the sheet and bed skirt from fabric worm. They are organic cotton from Birch Tree and since they were in the same line they go well together.

The gray fabric in the bumpers is from Joanne's as well as the gray changing table cover.

For the artwork over the crib I simply recovered some canvases I already had with left over fabric. I used heat and bond to stick the elephent, flower and giraffe to the fabric and then hot glued the fabric to the back side of the canvases. I found the templates online and printed them off.

I purchased the white curtains from IKEA, the pair was only $10! I couldn't have made them for that, such a deal!

I had some coral/orange paint left over from another project and stenciled circles onto the curtains to give them a little color.

I painted the book shelves (spice racks) with the same orange paint before hanging them on the wall.

The book shelves (spice racks) were from IKEA. But if you, like me, don't have an IKEA near you you can find them on Amazon here

Nursery Sneak Peak

I'm almost done with the nursery! Hopefully all will be complete by the end of the week. I thought I'd give you guys a sneak peak of what's been going on.

The colors I've chosen are grey and coral. I've also realized that "coral" comes in a wide range and it's pretty hard to actually determine what is coral and what isn't. Because of this, some hints of orange have meandered into the room claiming to be coral...I'm ok with this.

These "book shelves" are actually spice racks from Ikea. They come as unfinished wood, so I painted them coral/orange. (Cornge) They were only $3.99 each which was amazing! Go Ikea!!

You can see the coral and gray continued a bit in the bedding but I still need to finish that, so pictures will come soon.

Showered with Books

Baby Charlotte is due to arrive sometime between now and February 1st! Some of my close friends threw me a baby shower this past weekend and the theme was books.u

Throwing a baby shower for baby number 2 can be a difficult task. Especially if the baby is going to be the same gender. The amount of stuff you need the second time around is very minimal...but everyone loves a good party right?

To solve this dilemma, my amazing creative friends made the theme of the shower books. While you could bring a different gift if you wanted, the idea was for each guest to bring a book (or books) for the new baby. It was SUCH a great idea and so much fun!

Here are some pictures from the special day...

Every food item corresponded with the name of a children's book. For example-the cookies went with the book "Give A Mouse A Cookie". The same for the cupcakes, punch, donuts, hot chocolate bar, and soup.

Rather than playing a game, each lady used a sharpie to write a "note" on the diapers. After I got home I read a few... "This side up!" "Surprise!" and "This one is for dad", just to name a few... Such a cute idea!

The "Polar Express" Hot Chocolate bar

The main course was two different soups to choose from and "Little Red Hen" rolls.

The favors were beautiful bookmarks.

Also, each invitation included an adorable small piece of paper for the ladies to place inside the book they purchased. This gave them the opportunity to explain to Charlotte why she will love this book :)

I was blown away by the creativity and thoughtfulness of my friends. It was such a beautiful shower and such a wonderful idea!

Flannel Diaper Case

Hey guys! Don't forget to enter this week's giveaway for a charm pack of Marmalade fabric!

Today's tutorial is for a diaper case. Instead of having 5 diapers wandering around aimlessly somewhere in your diaper bag, why not make a case for them all to live in happily?

To make mine I used the Sugar Hill Flannel that I love from my sponsor Marie Madeline Studio. It is so so soft!

Materials:

  • 1/2 yard of fabric
  • 1/2 yard of batting
  • Ribbon
  • Sewing Machine
  • Thread
The first thing I did was cut out two identical rectangles from my flannel fabric. I determined the length and width in a very scientific manner...three diaper lengths and one diaper width and then I added 1 inch to the width and 1 inch to the length.

Once I had cut my two pieces of fabric I cut one piece of batting the exact same size.

Then I pinned the piece of batting to the back side of one of the pieces of fabric and sewed them together.

Next I seed that piece to the other piece of flannel, front to front, leaving a small opening so that I could turn it inside out.

I top stitched the opening and ironed the case so that it was smooth.

Next I placed a diaper in the case and tri-folded it so that I would know where to place my ribbon. I pinned the piece of ribbon to the back and sewed it down.

Diaper Pouch Tutorial

You only need to sew the ribbon to the area it touches the fabric in the above picture, only about a three inch section.

And you're done! Now you can fill your case with diapers and hit the road!
