Simple Knit Dress

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. My puff quilt is coming along quite nicely. While it's not done yet its getting close. My deadline is Saturday so the finished product will definitely be up on the blog next Monday so stay tuned.

If you remember, one of my thrift store finds last week was a baby girl t-shirt (size 18 months) and a knit tube top (size small) Click here to see that post. I paid $1.75 for both of these pieces.

So here is what I started with:

I cut a straight line across each of the shirts so that I had this:

Then I flipped the two pieces inside out and pinned them front to front. I wanted pleats and I wanted them to be even so I pinned the left side and then the right side of each shirt together first. Then I made a pleat in the center of the front and pinned it, and in the center of the back and pinned it. Then I made two pleats on each side of the the center pleat so that the front of the dress would have 5 pleats and the back would also have five. This way you can make sure all your pleats are evenly spaced. The top was the perfect size, it was a little bit bigger than the white t-shirt so that the extra material could be pleated.

Then I sewed the two pieces together.

What's great about this project is it only requires the one seam. The t-shirt has already been sewed on the sides and at the bottom, it makes for a very quick project, 30 minutes tops.

I then took the extra material that I had and cut out a matching heart decal. I placed it in the middle of the white t-shirt and sewed it around the edge. Here is the finished project. This dress is a 12-18 month dress so Lilly needs to wait a while to wear it...but not bad for only $1.75 right!

  4. This is so cute/creative! I love how you reused the pieces you bought - kids grow so quickly, I find it hard to spend so much on clothing.... cute, cute! Thanks for the link!
